1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing or using Debate Data ("we," "us," or "our"), including our website and mobile application, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use our services.
2. Description of Service
Debate Data provides a platform for debaters, coaches, and tournament organizers, including:
- A searchable database of debate motions from tournaments worldwide
- AI-powered argument generation for debate preparation
- AutoMotion — AI-generated original debate motions
- AutoTracker — debater and judge statistics lookup
- Timed practice rounds with real motions
- Custom lists for saving and organizing motions
- Tournament browsing and motion submission
- Push notifications for new motions (mobile app)
3. Accounts
Some features require you to create an account. You may sign in using email/password, Google, Discord, or Apple Sign-In. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Providing accurate and current information
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, are inactive for an extended period, or are used for fraudulent purposes.
4. Premium Subscriptions
Debate Data offers a Premium subscription that unlocks additional features including unlimited AI argument generation, AutoMotion, AutoTracker, and advanced filters.
Billing & Renewal
- Website: Subscriptions purchased on the website are processed through Stripe. Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.
- Mobile App: Subscriptions purchased through the iOS app are processed through Apple via in-app purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.
Cancellation
- Website: You can cancel your subscription at any time through the Stripe customer portal linked in your profile settings. You will retain access to Premium features until the end of your current billing period.
- Mobile App: You can cancel your subscription through your Apple ID subscription settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Refunds
For subscriptions purchased through the iOS app, refunds are handled by Apple in accordance with their refund policies. For web subscriptions, please contact us to discuss refund requests on a case-by-case basis.
5. User-Generated Content
You may contribute content to Debate Data, including motion submissions and tournament data. By submitting content to the public database, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, display, and distribute that content as part of the service.
You retain ownership of content you create, such as custom lists and saved collections. Content submitted to the public motion database may remain available after account deletion, as it forms part of the community resource.
6. AI-Generated Content
Debate Data uses AI services (including Anthropic's Claude) to generate arguments, motions, and analysis. AI-generated content is provided for debate preparation and educational purposes only.
- AI outputs may contain inaccuracies or biases and should not be relied upon as factual or authoritative
- AI-generated arguments do not represent the views of Debate Data
- We make no guarantees regarding the quality, accuracy, or completeness of AI-generated content
- You are responsible for evaluating and verifying any AI-generated content before use
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use automated tools to scrape, crawl, or extract data from our services
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' accounts
- Use the service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the service
- Submit false, misleading, or harmful content
- Circumvent any access restrictions or usage limits
- Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit our content or services without permission
8. Intellectual Property
The Debate Data platform, including its design, code, branding, and original content, is owned by Debate Data and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. Debate motions in the database are sourced from tournaments and community contributions and are made available as a shared resource. This does not grant you ownership of the database or the right to reproduce it in bulk.
9. Third-Party Services
Our services integrate with third-party providers. Your use of these integrations is subject to the respective third party's terms and privacy policies:
- Supabase (authentication and data storage)
- Apple (in-app purchases and Apple Sign-In)
- Stripe (web payment processing)
- Anthropic (AI argument generation)
- OpenRouter (AI analysis and translation)
- Google (analytics and advertising)
We are not responsible for the practices or content of third-party services.
10. Disclaimer of Warranties
Our services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We disclaim all warranties, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Debate Data shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits or revenues, whether incurred directly or indirectly, or any loss of data, use, or goodwill, arising out of your use of our services. Our total liability for any claim arising from these terms or your use of the service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated terms on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of our services after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
