Debate Data ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Debate Data website and mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our services.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect information provided by your authentication method, including:

  • Email address
  • Name and profile information (when signing in via Google, Discord, or Apple)
  • Password (hashed, when using email/password authentication)

User-Generated Content

  • Motion submissions you contribute to the database
  • Custom lists and saved motions
  • Profile information you choose to provide

AI Interaction Data

When you use our AI-powered features (argument generation, AutoMotion, bias/difficulty analysis), the inputs you provide are sent to third-party AI services to generate responses. We do not store your AI interaction inputs beyond what is necessary to deliver the response.

Payment Information

If you subscribe to Debate Data Premium, payment processing is handled by Stripe (web) and Apple via Superwall (mobile app). We do not store your full credit card number or payment details on our servers. We receive limited transaction information such as subscription status and billing identifiers.

Usage & Device Data

  • Pages visited, features used, and interactions with the service
  • Device type, operating system, and browser information
  • IP address
  • Referring URLs and search terms used to find our site

Push Notifications (Mobile App)

If you enable push notifications, we collect a device token to deliver notifications about new motions and updates. You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings.

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our services
  • Authenticate your identity and manage your account
  • Process premium subscriptions and payments
  • Deliver AI-generated arguments and debate motions
  • Send push notifications (if enabled)

3. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services that may collect or process your data:

  • Supabase — Authentication and database hosting
  • Google Analytics — Website traffic and usage analytics
  • PostHog — Product analytics for identified users
  • Google AdSense — Advertising on the website
  • Stripe — Payment processing for premium subscriptions (web)
  • Superwall / Apple — In-app purchase management (mobile app)
  • Anthropic (Claude API) — AI argument generation
  • OpenRouter — AI-powered bias/difficulty analysis and translation

4. Cookies & Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Authentication cookies — Maintain your login session across requests

  • Delete your account and associated data through the account deletion feature in your profile settings

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data from our systems. Content you submitted to the public motion database (e.g., tournament motions) may remain in the database after account deletion as it forms part of the community resource.

8. Children's Privacy

Our services are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of our services after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
